The first flights from the Schengen area will land at Otopeni Airport on Sunday

The first flights from the Schengen area landing at Henri Coandă Airport on Sunday will be those coming from Paris, Vienna, Hamburg, Rome, Zurich, Munich, Amsterdam, and Geneva, as reported by the National Company Bucharest Airports (CNAB).

According to the schedule, they will arrive between 00:05 – 01:00 local time.

Starting from March 31, 2024, with Romania's entry into the Schengen area, border controls will be lifted in the airspace and maritime space. In this context, the chief of police Bogdan Despescu, secretary of state in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, stated that starting Sunday, passengers have no additional obligations.

"We want to present and clarify all aspects related to the measures taken by the Ministry of Internal Affairs starting March 31, including the necessary measures once Romania enters the Schengen area, when border controls will be lifted in the airspace and maritime space. This situation does not impose any additional obligations on passengers. Additional obligations are solely the responsibility of the authorities," said Bogdan Despescu on Thursday.

Last year, 23 million passengers passed through Romania's airports.
