Romania will be promoted, starting Thursday, in several capitals around the world through an international tour of projections and cultural events coordinated by British writer and producer Charlie Ottley, who recently also obtained Romanian citizenship.
The initiative is carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship, and Tourism (MEDAT) and with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE).
The objective of the initiative is to present Romania as a tourist, cultural, and gastronomic destination, in a format dedicated to the international audience – from government representatives and opinion leaders to travel agents.
“Flavours of Romania” Projections in Capitals Across Four Continents
According to a MEDAT press release, the tour includes projections of the production Flavours of Romania, currently airing on Netflix Romania, in countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, Chile, Peru, Colombia, and the United Kingdom. The goal is to familiarize foreign audiences with Romania's natural, cultural, and gastronomic diversity and to strengthen international relations in the tourism sector.
The events are organized in partnership with the Romanian embassies in the respective countries and are designed as platforms for dialogue and promotion, not just as film screenings.
75-Minute Film and Public Meetings
Each event includes a approximately 75-minute film, made from selections of seasons 2 and 3 of the Flavours of Romania series, dedicated to the country's nine historical regions. The screenings are complemented by presentations and Q&A sessions with Charlie Ottley and Oana Mihai, followed by networking and gastronomic promotion moments.
Charlie Ottley is also known internationally for the documentary series Wild Carpathia, dedicated to Romania.
Minister of Tourism's Message: “Romania Has Everything It Takes to Be a Top Destination”
The Minister of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship, and Tourism, Irineu Darău, emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating that Romania needs authentic and coherent promotion on the international stage.
“Romania has authentic stories that deserve to be told to the world, and Charlie Ottley tells them with respect, depth, and passion. We thank him for his constant contribution to promoting Romania and for this initiative that showcases our tourism, cultural, and gastronomic potential on the international stage. Romania has everything it takes to be a top tourist destination. It is essential to show the world our true value and to increase Romania's attractiveness as a destination. I thank Minister Oana Țoiu and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their essential contribution,” stated Irineu Darău in a press release.
Charlie Ottley: “There Are Still Too Many Misconceptions About Romania”
In turn, Charlie Ottley explained that the tour also aims to combat stereotypes about Romania, through direct contact with the international audience.
“Oana and I had already planned this trip to reconnect with friends and family, but following discussions with the Ministry of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship, and Tourism, we decided to organize screenings in all the capitals we are going to visit. I hope this initiative will give us the opportunity to showcase Romania's attractiveness to the international audience, boost tourism, and encourage closer collaboration. There are still too many misconceptions about Romania, and the only way to overcome them is to be present, to go out into the world, and show people what an extraordinary country we have,” Ottley specified.
