Several supporters of Călin Georgescu, present on Thursday at the headquarters of the Bucharest Tribunal, where the former presidential candidate is trying to avoid judicial control, had altercations with the gendarmes in the area to maintain order.
Two people were taken into custody by law enforcement. Additionally, three fines totaling 7,500 lei were issued to three individuals from the group gathered in front of the Bucharest Tribunal.
After Georgescu left the court, a scuffle broke out between a violent group of supporters and gendarmes, and law enforcement officers extracted a man from the crowd and placed him in a police van.
At one point, a pregnant woman jumped to the defense of the man, and those around claimed that she was assaulted by the gendarmes, a claim denied by law enforcement.
Furthermore, another man from the violent group was taken into custody by gendarmes for questioning.
"From the very beginning, we specify that at no time did the gendarmes assault the pregnant woman. Their intervention aimed to protect her, trying to keep her away from the agitated area to prevent escalation. They also recommended that she stay in a safe area, away from the violent group, to avoid any risk.
We mention that during the public gathering organized near the Bucharest Tribunal, the gendarmes acted to extract a man who displayed recalcitrant behavior, did not comply with the instructions of law enforcement throughout the public gathering, and ultimately refused to provide identification details when requested by the gendarmes.
Although dialogue teams intervened to de-escalate the situation, some participants continued to display aggressive attitudes, and another man pushed the gendarmes in an attempt to prevent them from applying specific measures against the first person. As a result of these actions, law enforcement intervention was necessary, and the individuals were taken to the police station," the Gendarmerie stated.
Several hundred people awaited Călin Georgescu on Thursday in front of the Bucharest Tribunal, where his challenge to a court decision regarding the extension of judicial control in the case in which the sovereigntist leader is being tried for Legionary propaganda was being heard.
