Representatives of the Emergency County Hospital in Constanța announced on Monday that they have initiated an internal investigation after two children entered a state of brain death following surgical interventions at the medical facility. The convened medical commission has requested the documents in both cases.
„An internal investigation has been launched. This morning, a medical commission convened. All documents have been requested in both reported cases and are currently under analysis,” said the hospital’s spokesperson, Crina Kibedi.
At the end of last week, the family of a two-year-old child accused the medical staff at the County Hospital in Constanța of not providing adequate care after he underwent surgery for being diagnosed with intestinal volvulus.
Subsequently, the child's condition worsened, sepsis and multiple organ dysfunction appeared. The family claims that there was a lack of neurosurgical consultation for three days after the operation and that the on-call doctor did not see him for 24 hours.
Currently, the child has been transferred to the "Grigore Alexandrescu" Hospital in Bucharest and is in a state of brain death.
The second case is that of a six-year-old girl who entered a state of brain death after undergoing appendectomy at the County Hospital in Constanța.
