Convicted of treason: The Romanian who monitored military targets and sent photos to the Russians has received his sentence

Alexandru Pişcan, accused of sending images of Romanian military targets or belonging to NATO to the Russian Embassy in Bucharest, has been sentenced by the Bucharest Court of Appeal to five years and six months in prison with immediate enforcement, for committing the crime of treason.

The man was taken into pre-trial detention in May, and the measure was subsequently extended several times.

Starting in 2022, Alexandru Pişcan conducted surveillance on Romanian military targets or belonging to NATO located near the city of Tulcea, collecting military-related information and taking photographs of military equipment and the movement of personnel in the border area with Ukraine, which he then transmitted to diplomats at the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Bucharest.

According to the Penal Code, the crime of treason is punishable by imprisonment from 10 to 20 years, but Alexandru Pişcan received a reduced sentence after admitting his guilt during the trial.

Alexandru Piscan graduated from a private university, is from Ploiești but currently resides in Bucharest, according to social media data.
