President Nicușor Dan stated on Thursday that all the parties currently in discussions – PSD, PNL, USR, UDMR – want to be part of the government.
“I am very happy that all the parties we are in discussions with want to be part of the government,” said the head of state after participating in the National Forum for the Future of Agriculture organized by the Romanian Farmers Club.
When asked if it is possible to govern with sovereigntists, considering that parliamentary members who resigned from POT and SOS have joined the PSD parliamentary group, Nicușor Dan replied: “It is a parliamentary, constitutional dynamic.”
Nicușor Dan emphasized that the document drafted by party representatives regarding the deficit is not the final version and will be politically negotiated by the leaders of the political parties together with him.
“Various information will come out from this technical document produced by party representatives in this discussion on the deficit and the budget. It is not the final version, it is a working document that will be politically negotiated by party leaders and myself. (…) Nothing you will hear from sources is final,” said President Nicușor Dan.
He also mentioned that discussions will be finalized on Monday.
“There will be a simultaneous discussion on other program chapters, which are set to be finalized on Monday. There will be a long discussion on the whole package on Monday afternoon,” explained Nicușor Dan.
When asked if PSD requested the position of prime minister, he replied, “there are some technical discussions.”
On Wednesday, at his first press conference at the Cotroceni Palace, the head of state stated that at the beginning of next week, Monday, there should be a first draft of the government program, from which discussions about the future government should begin.
When asked about the possibility of appointing a technocratic prime minister or having a rotation of prime ministers, the president confirmed that these scenarios have been discussed and that none of the options are excluded at this time.
“I confirm that these discussions have taken place. At the moment, none of the options are excluded,” he stated.
