Interim President Ilie Bolojan stated on Wednesday that in his opinion, the amounts allocated to political parties can be reduced in the near future.
The sums received by the parties can be reduced in the upcoming period, but especially regulated in such a way that, following the model of German foundations, these amounts will mainly go towards the training of the members of these parties.
"I believe that the amounts allocated to political parties can be reduced in the near future, but especially regulated in such a way that, following the model of German foundations, these amounts will mainly go towards the training of the members of these parties to make them more competitive, more professional," said Ilie Bolojan during the mandate review conference.
He specified that subsidy money can also be used for training, because in this way, this investment, practically made from public funds, will return through the services that these people will provide to our country where they hold a position, in favor of the citizens.
In 2023, new records were set regarding the funding of political parties. Six parties received 227 million lei and spent 252 million.
The budget for 2024 brought even higher allocations, amounting to 314 million lei, which the parties will be able to use for operational and promotional expenses, as well as for electoral campaigns, according to Expert Forum.
According to current legislation, there is no limit on the amounts that can be spent on campaigns in relation to the subsidies received – in other words, campaigns can be fully financed from the state budget.
