Melania Trump launched a cryptocurrency ahead of her husband, Donald Trump’s inauguration as the President of the United States, as reported by BBC.
Her announcement comes a day after President-elect Donald Trump launched the $Trump cryptocurrency. Both coins have seen increases but experienced volatile transactions.
"The official Melania meme is live! You can buy $MELANIA now," she posted on the social platform X on Sunday.
The website for "Official Melania Meme" specifies that it is a crypto asset created and monitored on the Solana blockchain.
On the websites of the $Trump and $Melania coins, it is mentioned that they are "not intended to be or constitute" an investment opportunity or a security.
According to CoinMarketCap, $Trump currently has a total market valuation of approximately 8.7 billion dollars (7.1 billion pounds), while $Melania stands at around 1.3 billion dollars.
Trump previously called the crypto market a "scam," but during the 2024 election campaign, he became the first presidential candidate to accept digital assets as donations.
During the election campaign, Trump also stated that he would create a strategic bitcoin reserve and appoint financial regulatory authorities to take a more positive stance on digital assets.
Following Trump's victory, bitcoin surged to a record level and is currently trading at $140,000, according to the crypto trading platform Coinbase.
