The funeral of Brigitte Bardot will take place on Wednesday, January 7, at the Notre-Dame de l’Assomption church in Saint-Tropez, in the south of France.
The ceremony will be followed by a private and confidential burial in a cemetery near the sea, the Brigitte Bardot Foundation announced on Monday to AFP.
The church service will be broadcasted on screens in the port and in the center of Place des Lices. After the burial, a public tribute is planned, open to the locals of Saint-Tropez and the actress's admirers, explained the Foundation.
Brigitte Bardot, who became a symbol of France in the 1950s and 1960s, has died at the age of 91, announced the Brigitte Bardot Foundation on Sunday.
The actress made her home in the resort of Saint-Tropez, where she found solace among animals and dedicated her life to their well-being.
Brigitte Bardot spent the last part of her life alone behind high walls - in the resort, surrounded by a menagerie of dogs, cats, and horses. She stated to the French magazine Paris Match in 2024 that she wished to be buried in her garden.
The Var Prefecture specified to Reuters that they have not received any request for a private burial, which would have been necessary to bury the actress in her garden.
