MPs from AUR were absent from Parliament at the swearing-in ceremony by President Nicușor Dan.
A statement from the party explains the decision and asserts that they cannot endorse an attack on the people's sovereignty by being present, as the presidential elections on May 18 were "deeply tainted by massive fraud, institutional manipulations, and unprecedented external interference."
AUR announces in advance that their party's MPs will not participate in the swearing-in of the Government endorsed by Nicușor Dan.
"Romania is living today in a false democracy"
"Romania is living today in a false democracy. Nicușor Dan, presented as an 'independent,' is actually a product of the system – supported by former presidents, secret service generals, paid influencers, and foreign embassies.
The discreet visit of the French intelligence chief, Nicolas Lerner, before the second round, is clear evidence of foreign interventions in our elections.
Over 5.3 million Romanians have shown that they want a change, that they refuse the status of a colony, and that they no longer accept the dictatorship of those who have been ruling Romania for 35 years.
Unfortunately, the complete liberation of the country from foreign influences and parasitic elites has not yet been achieved. AUR will continue to fight for freedom, truth, and authentic democracy. We do not recognize the legitimacy of the new regime and will represent the real will of the Romanian people," AUR conveys.
"Imminent danger of establishing a dictatorship"
Furthermore, AUR representatives specify that they refuse to be part of a "deceptive spectacle organized by a system desperate to retain power," appreciating that "Romania needs liberation, not new chains."
AUR announces that they will initiate a broad debate in society to challenge the legitimacy of these elections and draw attention to "an imminent danger of establishing a dictatorship."
"We see how the current system is preparing to eliminate opposition parties and arrest leaders of the sovereignist movement. AUR MPs will not participate in the swearing-in of the Government endorsed by Nicușor Dan.
We will leave the seats empty and allow all those from PSD, PNL, USR, UDMR, and their satellites to rush to the trough. This coalition does not reflect the will of the people, but only the hunger for power of a system that preserves its privileges," they affirm.
