At the end of 2024, female personnel in the MoD represented 23%, the Ministry of Defense announced on Thursday at the anniversary conference „Women, Peace, and Security” organized at the Palace of Parliament.
Female military personnel represented 13% of the total personnel, divided into categories – 22% officers, 17% officers and non-commissioned officers, and 9% professional soldiers.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Defense, the conference was organized to mark 25 years since the approval of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 Women, Peace, and Security, 10 years since the adoption of Law no. 23/2015 declaring May 8 as the Day of Equality of Opportunities between Women and Men, simultaneously with the celebration of 70 years since Romania's admission as a member of the United Nations.
"I am convinced that the recently launched campaign, aimed at promoting female leadership and increasing women's participation in the decision-making process, has all the prerequisites to be successful. The Ministry of National Defense supports and promotes free and equal access at all hierarchical levels, regardless of gender, for both civilians and military personnel, meeting performance and professionalism criteria," stated Minister Angel Tîlvăr.
