Surprise Kamala Harris. In three weeks, she shattered Donald Trump's campaign

Although few gave him a chance, the Vice President of the United States managed to revive the race for the White House through emotion, enthusiasm, and energy. Within days, he shattered the reassuring advantage that Trump had in polls over Biden, becoming the main favorite of American voters for the position of the new head of state.

In a video distributed on social media, Donald Trump insults Kamala Harris the day after the televised debate with Joe Biden.

The former president is on a golf cart, getting ready to start a game, being filmed as he hands some banknotes to a club employee, asking him what he thought of the debate with Joe Biden.

The footage was likely captured the day after his success in the confrontation with the current president, on June 29, 2024.

After receiving praise from the employee, Trump utters a vulgar insult towards Harris, then talks about how difficult it is to negotiate with Vladimir Putin and how tough the President of China is.

There are many negative reactions on social media regarding Donald Trump's offensive behavior, but the fact that he is so concerned about Putin and Xi Jinping shows that at that time he was confident he would return to the White House and have the opportunity to interact with the two dictators again.

Differences from 2016

In less than five weeks, the situation has changed drastically.

From being the favorite to win the elections, Donald Trump has now become the second choice in all major polls, sociological analyses, and according to the odds of betting houses.

Vice President Kamala Harris leads ahead of former President Donald Trump in three crucial states, according to new polls conducted by the New York Times/Siena College, this being the most recent sign of a spectacular turnaround for the Democrats after President Biden's withdrawal from the presidential race.

There are 90 days left until the US presidential elections, and the situation can change.

Even though he is no longer the favorite, Donald Trump can once again turn the odds in his favor. He did it in 2016, but something is different now.

Kamala Harris no longer underestimates the former president, as Hillary Clinton did eight years ago.

There is a major difference between the two campaigns, with the US Vice President having a strategy involving dozens of campaign rallies, TV ads, and a real assault on social media.

Furthermore, she has the support of Joe Biden, who has earned the respect of many undecided Americans for stepping down from the race, and the support of a sitting president, even though he is no longer in the electoral competition, remains crucial.

Kamala Harris also benefits from the assistance of the person she nominated for the future vice president position, Tim Waltz, the governor of Minnesota, a very good orator, former professor, extremely popular, and close to the people.

The Democratic Party has a superior campaign force compared to the Republican Party, with party leaders having divergent positions regarding Trump's candidacy.

Harris, Obliged to Win Pennsylvania

The former US president has massive support among Republican voters, but it will not be enough to win the elections. He needs those who are undecided and still have not decided who to vote for, but Trump is doing nothing to capture their attention, as his speeches remain divisive, polarizing society, and only seeking to mobilize his supporters.

To win the elections, Kamala Harris is obliged to obtain more votes than Donald Trump in the state of Pennsylvania, which has 19 electoral votes.

To become the president of the US, Harris needs at least 270 electoral votes.

Each state is allocated a number of electors based on its population, and the candidate who receives the most votes in that state receives all the electoral votes from that state.

At this moment, with 90 days before the elections, Kamala Harris relies on 208 electoral votes from states where she has very high chances of winning, while Donald Trump relies on 219.

111 electoral votes are distributed in states where Democrats and Republicans are virtually tied, and over time, these states have frequently changed their political color, being won by either Democratic or Republican candidates.

Favored to Reach the White House

To become the president of the US, Kamala Harris must win the following states where the situation was unclear but has turned in her favor in recent weeks:

  • Michigan, 15 electors, and according to the latest poll, she is 4 points ahead of Trump,
  • Wisconsin, 10 electors (+4 compared to Trump),
  • New Hampshire, 4 electors (+5),
  • Virginia, 13 electors (+5),
  • Pennsylvania, 19 electors (+4),
  • Nebraska, District 2, 1 elector.

Without the 19 electors from Pennsylvania, Harris would need to win the states of Nevada, 6 electors, Arizona, 11, and Georgia, 16.

Donald Trump is still ahead in polls or tied with Harris in these three states mentioned above.

It should be noted that immediately after the debate with Biden, the former Republican president was leading in almost all polls, with a highly favorable situation in terms of winning the elections.

A Calculated Risk

Another major difference from 2016 is that Trump appears disoriented. After Joe Biden's withdrawal, he has not been able to recover, find resources, or a strategy to counter Kamala Harris.

He tried to attack her for being a woman, for presenting herself as part of the community of people of color, but it's not because her mother came from India. It was a lie that cost Trump a lot in terms of support from people of color, as Kamala Harris's father is of Jamaican descent.

Another issue is that he was found guilty by a jury in New York in a criminal case and is battling a former judge. It is very difficult for him to shake off the campaign slogan "criminal vs. prosecutor," intensively used by Democrats.

In the last two weeks, Donald Trump has had only two electoral events, being affected by the lack of enthusiasm surrounding his campaign.

At the end of the week, it was publicly revealed that Iranian intelligence services hacked the emails of individuals involved in Donald Trump's campaign, obtaining information that could be used against JD Vance, Trump's nominee for the vice president position.

According to reports in the American press, the Democrats rejected the documents offered, informing the FBI.

With Joe Biden's withdrawal from the race, a very rare occurrence in American politics, no one knew if Vice President Kamala Harris would manage to revive the race for the White House or if Trump had already emerged as the winner.

One thing was certain, and Nancy Pelosi, the former leader of the Democrats in the House of Representatives, expressed it very clearly in a phone conversation with Joe Biden: "Mr. President, you cannot win," Pelosi told Biden, determined to take a risk rather than reconcile with the idea of certain defeat. And they took the risk.
