Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the attack on the Turkish ship near a Romanian platform in the Black Sea was carried out by Russian drones.
„A horrific attack, carried out by two Russian drones, on a civilian ship in neutral waters, transporting corn and belonging to Turkey. On board were citizens from Azerbaijan and India. Unfortunately, it is known that the ship’s captain has died. My condolences. The fate of another person is still unknown. 11 crew members have been rescued, one of whom was injured,” Zelensky wrote on the X platform.
At the same time, the leader in Kiev accused Russia of terrorism in the Black Sea.
"Ukraine has repeatedly proposed concrete measures to de-escalate the situation and guarantee safety in the Black Sea. Similar proposals have also come from third countries. However, Russia consistently chooses terrorism and sinking civilian ships instead of normal navigation. Pressure is needed to restore global food security. And everyone who is truly interested must help," Volodymyr Zelensky further wrote.
A Turkish ship loaded with cereals was hit Monday morning in the Black Sea, near the Seagull Platform (Platform 7). Several Romanian ships and aircraft headed in that direction.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that it is conducting a complex mission to rescue the crew of a ship that sank in the Black Sea.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 11 crew members have been rescued. Additionally, two deceased persons have been identified.
The helicopter from the General Aviation Inspectorate took over the injured persons for emergency medical assistance. The victims were transported to the hospital.
