All TAROM flights have returned to normal. The company announced that it has reached an agreement with the pilots.
„In the morning of July 9, all regular flights, both domestic and international routes, are operating according to the flight schedules. Following the dialogue between the company’s Board of Directors and TAROM flight crew representatives, an agreement has been reached on salary-related aspects raised by the flight crew. The agreed measures will be negotiated within the Individual Employment Contract with the team members,” TAROM stated.
Additionally, the airline informs that it is in contact with customers affected by flight cancellations.
„As a result of the situation encountered on Monday, July 8, which led to the cancellation of numerous flights due to individual declarations of flight inaptitude by the flight crew, TAROM apologizes to its passengers for all the discomfort caused and is making every effort to minimize the impact this situation has on their travel plans.
The company has provided alternatives for affected passengers due to these cancellations, and the assistance team is in direct contact with passengers to provide detailed information regarding flight rescheduling, refunds, or other available options,” TAROM specified.
On Monday, there was chaos at Otopeni Airport after TAROM canceled several flights due to a disguised strike by pilots who declared themselves unfit to fly. It was a way to draw attention to the fact that pilots’ salaries have not increased for years, being well below the average of those at private companies. 52 out of the 88 scheduled flights were canceled.
According to Boarding Pass, on Tuesday morning, the only flights on July 9, 2024 that were canceled are those from Baia Mare, Suceava, and Iasi to Bucharest, as the planes that were supposed to operate them did not take off from Bucharest to the three cities on the evening of July 8, 2024.
By local time 10:00, the state airline has ten departures scheduled from Bucharest to Cluj Napoca, Heraklion (Greece), Timisoara, Iasi, Oradea, Budapest (Hungary), Istanbul (Turkey), Madrid (Spain), Sofia (Bulgaria), Frankfurt (Germany), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Nice, and Paris (France).
TAROM recorded losses of approximately 2.5 million euros during Monday’s pilot protest.
