Sorana Cîrstea (36 years old) is impressing in the final season of her career.
The Romanian has qualified for the semifinals of the tournament in Rome, after defeating players like Aryna Sabalenka or Jelena Ostapenko, and has the chance to enter the top 20 players in the world for the first time in her career.
The Polish press wrote about Sorana, highlighting her performance in Rome and throughout this year.
"Sorana Cîrstea is the classic example of a solid player. Ready to challenge the big names, but not consistent enough to break into the top. It seems that with age, the Romanian is getting better. Despite announcing her retirement at 36, she will at least equal her best career ranking," writes the website weszlo.com.
If she reaches the final in Rome, Sorana will for the first time in her career enter the top 20 players in the world just before retirement.
