UEFA could once again take disciplinary measures against Romania.
At the end of Romania’s first match in the new Nations League season, lost in Sweden 2-1, our team may have problems again. In Solna, there were over 2500 Romanian fans, and the Scandinavian press writes that some of them caused damages „like never seen before.”
The newspaper Sport Bladet writes that Romanian supporters lit pyrotechnic materials, and also incited hatred through several chants. In addition, several seats were destroyed.
"The bill for the acts of vandalism will be sent to the Romanian Football Federation, and Romania will be sanctioned by UEFA for lighting Bengal-type pyrotechnic materials," writes the aforementioned source.
Furthermore, the information is confirmed by the head of security of the Swedish Football Federation, Martin Fredman, who stated the following:
"We have traces of vandalism in the Romanian sector, which we are investigating and trying to assess their extent. It involves a certain number of seats, which cost 2,000 Swedish crowns each to replace. The stadium staff is currently calculating their number and total cost, which will then be reported to the police. Apparently, there is a lot of work to be done. There was vandalism at a level like never seen before.
We have a good surveillance system at the stadium, and some individuals were caught before they could disguise themselves. This meant that we chose not to intervene during the match, but instead we arrested four people afterward. One brought pyrotechnic materials and the other three used them. We also arrested an individual who incited hatred against a group of people. There are recordings of what happened, and based on them, the decision was made to arrest that individual.
Every destruction costs money. We will see how UEFA judges in the Disciplinary Committee and what sanctions it imposes. But it happened in their sector, with their supporters," stated Martin Fredman.
Romania was already a repeat offender and had already been punished by UEFA, with the match against Bosnia on Monday evening set to be played without spectators as a result of the incidents from the Kosovo match in November 2024. At that time, the Kosovars walked off the field due to chants from the stands and later lost the game by default.
