Roger Federer’s agent made an extremely important announcement for the global tennis world during the ongoing Laver Cup in Berlin.
The great legend from Switzerland, Roger Federer, is reportedly close to returning to the court, two years after his retirement, in September 2022, also at the Laver Cup, a competition he himself conceived.
In recent years, there has been intense discussion about a major exhibition match between the great rivals and good friends Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer.
A match that could take place in Spain, at the grand Santiago Bernabeu stadium in Madrid. And which could surpass the record for spectators ever attending a tennis match, set by the two of them, 51,954 spectators, in South Africa.
The renovated Santiago Bernabeu, costing 1.7 billion dollars, could host over 80,000 people for this super match, with Rafa having the opportunity to play at his beloved team's arena, Real Madrid.
"Since Roger retired, he doesn't want to play matches until he feels physically fit. I'm thinking about the spectator record they (note - Rafa and Roger) broke in South Africa. We like to do big things.
If there is a possibility to break this record one day, I'm sure Roger will consider it. Both of them would love such a match, and I enjoy working with Carlos Costa (note - Rafael Nadal's agent).
I have very fond memories of the matches organized with them. I will never forget that half-grass, half-clay court match in Mallorca. Anything is possible in the future," said Tony Godsick, the Swiss's agent, to the Spanish daily Marca.
Federer has been present in Berlin these days at the Laver Cup matches, often cheered by the crowds. After two days of competition, Team World leads Team Europe 8-4. In the first match of Sunday, starting at 14:30, Medvedev and Shelton will face off.
