Ngezana, the defender of FCSB, a starter for the South Africa national team in a World Cup qualifier match

FCSB’s central defender, the Romanian champions, Siyabonga Ngezana, started for the national team after a six-year break.

He returned to national team action for the first matches of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. South Africa played against Nigeria, and the score ended in a draw, 1-1. The central defender had previously played for the South African team six years ago, in a tournament called the COSAFA Cup.

Ngezana had a solid and appreciated performance in the match against the Nigerians. He received a rating of 6.60 according to SofaScore, also receiving a yellow card for repeated fouls in the 56th minute.

South Africa is in fourth place in Group C of the 2026 World Cup qualification, with four points, obtained after three matches played. In the next match, on June 11, the South Africans will play against Zimbabwe.

Ngezana was brought to FCSB last summer from Kaizer Chiefs for 700,000 euros and has since become a regular starter for the red and blue team.
