Polish player Iga Swiatek, the world number one, and Greek player Maria Sakkari, ranked 9th in women’s tennis, qualified for the final of the WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells, California, with a total prize pool of $9,258,080.
Iga Swiatek easily defeated the surprising Ukrainian Marta Kostiuk, ranked 32nd in the world, in her first WTA 1000 semifinal, with a score of 6-2, 6-1, after 1 hour and 9 minutes of play. Maria Sakkari, ranked 9th in the WTA, had a much tougher victory over American player Coco Gauff, ranked 3rd in the WTA, with a score of 6-4, 6-7 (5/7), 6-2, in a semifinal interrupted twice by rain.

Swiatek and Sakkari were also opponents in the 2022 final of this tournament, which was won by the Polish player.
