Gloria Bistrița, the Romanian women’s handball champion, emerged victorious at the start of the new edition of the Champions League, in a challenging away match in Germany, against Blomberg – Lippe.
It was 28-23 for our girls, who doubled Romania’s success in this debut weekend of the Champions League, after CSM Bucharest won against Krim Ljubljana on Saturday, with a score of 37-29.
This is Gloria's third season in the League, and the objective now is a grand one, to qualify for the Final Four. The team coached by Carlos Viver significantly strengthened this summer, with the additions of Eriksson, Hosu, Reichert, Engel, Mala, Paulo, and Gonzales.
After winning the Romanian Super Cup, Gloria Bistrița started the new championship edition with two victories, securing a clear win at Lippe, after a somewhat fragile 13-10 at halftime.
Bistrița is in a group with Gyor, Metz, Odense, Storhamar, Nykobing, Podravka, and Blomberg Lippe, hoping for a qualification at least from 3rd-4th place.
In the first part, Nicole Ruth, the goalkeeper for Blomberg-Lippe, stood out with 11 crucial saves.
HSG Blomberg Lippe is a club founded in 1993, and this summer they won the championship for the first time, participating for the first time in history in the League.
