Danielle Collins wins match after match

American tennis player Danielle Collins, who won the title in Miami at the end of last month, continues her winning streak and has reached ten consecutive victories on the circuit, after two successes on Thursday at the WTA 500 tournament in Charleston (South Carolina), with total prizes of $922,573.

Collins defeated Tunisian Ons Jabeur, the sixth-ranked player in the world and defending champion, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 in the second round, and in the round of 16, she beat compatriot Sloane Stephens 6-2, 6-2.

''Danimal'', as Collins is affectionately called, has reached the quarterfinals in Charleston for the second time, and her opponent in this stage will be Belgian Elise Mertens, who eliminated Ukrainian Elina Svitolina 6-4, 6-1.

Also advancing to the quarterfinals are American Jessica Pegula, the top seed, Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, who will face each other in one of the quarterfinals, as well as Russian Veronika Kudermetova (the 2021 champion) and Greek Maria Sakkari (seventh-ranked player in the world), who will meet in another quarterfinal.

Romanian Jaqueline Cristian achieved a spectacular victory in the round of 16, 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 against American Emma Navarro, and will face Russian Daria Kasatkina (the 2017 champion) in the quarterfinals.
