Drivers traveling between Sibiu and Boița must prepare for over two months of restrictions. Traffic on the A1 highway will be closed starting Monday, October 5, between the road junctions of Cisnădie and Boița, with traffic being diverted to DN7 and DN1.
The restrictions will remain in place until December 19, 2026, according to the National Company for Road Infrastructure Management (CNAIR).
The closure is necessary to continue the construction works on section 2 of the Sibiu-Pitești Highway.
CNAIR's General Director, Cristian Pistol, explains that the complete closure is necessary for safety reasons. At the Boița junction, where the connection between A1 and A13 Sibiu–Făgăraș will be made, work is being done on a structure over DN7, and the concrete will be poured directly over the road using a sliding formwork.
"The formwork, which is actually a massive metal piece, and the pouring equipment do not allow safe traffic even for cars," says Pistol.
According to the CNAIR chief, setting up a temporary detour in the work area would not have been a quick solution either, as it would have required expropriations, permits, and utility relocations. The highway closure is scheduled for 11 weeks, a period chosen outside the peak season.

Where Traffic Will Be Diverted
During the closure of the highway, drivers will travel on DN7 between Boița, Tălmaciu, and Veștem, then on DN1 between Veștem and Cisnădie.
The overpass is part of the road junction that will provide the connection between A13 and A1 in the Boița area. It will be built in cantilever with the help of a mobile metal formwork.
"Under these conditions, traffic on A1 (between the road junctions of Cisnădie and Boița) must be interrupted so that the works do not endanger road traffic participants," explains CNAIR.
