Police officer Marian Godină announced on Thursday that he has submitted his resignation from the Romanian Police after nearly two decades in uniform. He says he chose to give up the security and stability offered by the profession to have more time for his family, writing, and other projects.
„After nearly two decades of wearing the uniform, today I submitted my resignation from the Romanian Police,” Godină announced in a post on Facebook.
The decision comes in the year that marks 20 years since he graduated from the "Vasile Lascăr" Police Academy in Câmpina. Godină says that if he had stayed in the system, he would have had about 14 more years until retirement.
"This profession has given me a lot"
Marian Godină speaks gratefully about the years spent in the Police and says that the experiences lived during this period have shaped him and have become a source of inspiration for his books and stories over time.
"In these twenty years, thanks to the police profession, I have lived experiences equivalent to ten lifetimes. This profession has given me a lot: it has shaped me as a person and has offered me experiences that have later found their way into my books, into my stories, and, in one way or another, into the person I am today," he writes.
Godină says he is grateful even for the difficult periods, sleepless nights, and interventions from which he returned safely.
What changed after becoming a father
With the arrival of children, he says, priorities have changed. Adrenaline missions have become less important, while time spent at home has started to weigh more heavily.
"I began to need more time to spend with my family. If in my youth I volunteered to work on Christmas, now I was calculating shifts with some fear and praying to be free," Godină recounts.
He admits that the rational choice would have been to stay in the Police, where he had a secure income, stability, and the prospect of a pension in about 14 years. "But life is not always about the safest choice," he explains.
Writing and family, the new priorities
Godină says he wants to focus more on writing, to develop projects he believes in, and, above all, to be present in his children's lives. "And I want to be much more present at home, with my children. And I want this now, not in ten years," he writes.
The decision was not a quick one. He says he sought advice and discussed with several people before coming to the conclusion that the choice belongs entirely to him.
After submitting his resignation, Godină describes the feeling as one of "freedom and happiness."
"For me, from today, a new journey begins, a journey with priorities, but deep down in my soul, I will always remain a policeman," he concludes his message.
