The Presidential Administration will reduce its budget by 20%. What will happen to Nicușor Dan's salary

The Presidential Administration will reduce its own budget by 20% in the budget adjustment, said President Nicușor Dan on Monday during a press conference.

„When the budget adjustment for 2025 comes, the Presidential Administration will propose a 20% reduction of its own budget to participate in this collective effort,” stated Nicușor Dan.

According to him, the reduction amounts to approximately 20 million lei.

Asked if this reduction means that his own salary will also be reduced by 20%, Nicușor Dan stated: "The large amounts are important (...). At the moment, there is no intention for that."

"We have conducted analyses at the Presidential Administration and concluded that we can reduce the budget of the Presidential Administration by 20%, which amounts to 20 million lei, much more than the 1,000 or 2,000 lei that I could reduce from my salary," added the president.

The Minister of Labor, Florin Manole, stated on Sunday evening that, in his opinion, it is populism to reduce your own salary as a minister or state company director and believes that measures need to be taken through laws to solve the issues.

Manole does not consider this salary reduction to be a solution.

The Minister of Energy, Bogdan Ivan, announced on Friday that he transferred 20% of his ministerial salary to the Romanian state, a day after declaring his willingness to cut his salary by 20%.

He also asked directors and members of boards of directors and supervisors to make the same gesture.

And the General Director of Incertrans, Flavius Cladoveanu, decided to reduce his salary from 53,910 lei to 14,000 lei, according to a post made on Thursday evening by the Minister of Economy, Radu Miruță.
