Most Romanians believe that Romania needs early elections, and if parliamentary elections were to take place next Sunday, the Alliance for the Union of Romanians would come in first.
A CURS survey conducted from May 1-14, 2026, and published on Sunday also shows a predominantly conservative orientation of the electorate.
According to the survey, 56% of respondents say Romania needs early elections, while 41% oppose such a solution.
The authors of the research state that the result indicates "the existence of significant public pressure for changing the current political configuration."
AUR, Leading in Voting Intentions
Regarding the voting intention for parliamentary elections, if the ballot were to take place next Sunday, the ranking would be as follows:
- Alliance for the Union of Romanians – 32%
- Social Democratic Party – 24%
- National Liberal Party – 20%
- Save Romania Union – 10%
- Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania – 5%
- PNRR-Piedone – 4%
- SOS Romania – 3%
- Other party – 2%
According to CURS, "the results indicate a relatively stable competition between the main parties, with AUR in a leading position and with a clear difference from the rest of the competitors."
Electorate Declares Itself Rather Conservative
The survey also shows that most respondents ideologically identify with the Christian-democratic and nationalist areas.
Thus, 29% of respondents feel close to the Christian-democratic area, 24% to the nationalist one, 16% define themselves as social democrats, 12% as liberals, and 10% state they are close to progressivism.
"The data indicate a predominantly conservative orientation of the Romanian electorate, in a context marked by economic insecurity and political instability," the research creators conveyed.
How the Survey Was Conducted
The CURS survey was conducted from May 1-14, 2026, on a sample of 1,664 respondents, adult population residing in Romania.
The data was collected through face-to-face interviews at the respondents' homes. The maximum margin of error is plus/minus 2.4%, at a confidence level of 95%.
