The legendary chess player Garry Kasparov urges Romanians, ahead of Sunday’s presidential elections, not to opt for the candidate for whom „the Putin regime has carried out cyber attacks and influence operations on the territory of Romania.”
„As a Russian, it is my responsibility to denounce the criminal behavior of my country,” Kasparov stated, adding that Romanians must „reject” Călin Georgescu on Sunday and vote for Elena Lasconi.
"I am Garry Kasparov, and this is my appeal to the courageous Romanian people: On Sunday, you must reject Călin Georgescu.
Now, allow me to state the obvious: I am not Romanian, I am Russian. And as a Russian, I do not want to interfere in what is happening in your country. But as a Russian, it is also my responsibility to denounce the criminal behavior of my country.
The Putin regime has carried out cyber attacks and influence operations on the territory of Romania in support of a single candidate, and that is Călin Georgescu. The same people who are now blatantly violating Romania's sovereignty have stolen the freedom and decent life of an entire generation of Russians," he said.
"You have fought hard for Romania to become a member of a free, prosperous, and secure Europe. And I wouldn't want you to suffer and have the same fate as my country. Therefore, I urge you to support Lasconi and reject Georgescu and stop his fascist and criminal supporters. God bless you!" Kasparov added.
