Dominic Fritz stated upon leaving Cotroceni that USR has conveyed to President Nicușor Dan the proposal to have two successive minority governments – the first being PNL-USR-UDMR, the second PSD, both under the leadership of the same technocratic prime minister.
USR maintains its proposal of Siegfried Mureșan as prime minister, but is open to discussing another nomination made by the president.
When asked if USR would vote for a technocratic government, Fritz replied that they cannot accept a technocratic government on one hand pulling the chestnuts out of the fire, and on the other hand a PSD-AUR majority making decisions against this government.
"The political decision and political responsibility for this decision should be in the same room. We cannot have a technocratic government and a PSD-AUR majority in Parliament. Therefore, in our view, a technocratic prime minister would work with the two variants of successive minority governments (...) Successive minority governments would only work if they started with a center-right government."
"Elections should not only be a text in the Constitution, but a real opportunity if solutions are not found," Fritz added.
President Nicușor Dan began a new round of consultations with parties and parliamentary groups at Cotroceni Palace on Thursday morning, in order to designate the candidate for the position of prime minister. The discussions come after four months of political crisis and two failed attempts to form a government.
The USR delegation consists of the party president, Dominic Fritz, the Minister of Environment, Diana Buzoianu, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Radu Miruță, Senator Cynthia Păun, and Deputies Adrian Echert and Cezar Dragoescu.
