Ciucă, about the bill through which Iohannis can run for the Senate: We won't give him a job

The President of the National Liberal Party, Nicolae Ciucă, stated on Wednesday regarding the bill that allows President Klaus Iohannis to run in the parliamentary elections that PNL is not giving him a job.

If Romanians choose him, he will be part of the future Parliament, if he decides to run, Ciucă says.

"We are not giving him a job, Romanians, if they choose him, it means that he will be part of the future Parliament or not, if he decides to run. At the moment, it is only about rehabilitating a democratic right for a citizen.

This decision aims to restore a democratic right, namely the right of every citizen to choose and be chosen. It is not just about President Iohannis, we are not talking about individuals, we are talking about the absolute democratic right of a citizen to choose and be chosen. At the moment, we are restoring this right, this freedom," said the President of the PNL on ProTv.

Ciucă also mentioned that the head of state has experience in foreign policy and defense, and such experience is not wasted but should be capitalized on.

"President Iohannis, I have never had any limitation to say two absolutely essential things about him, he has been an honest president and has had an absolutely democratic behavior. He has experience in foreign policy and in everything related to defense issues, which is why such experience is not wasted, it must be capitalized on," Ciucă said about Klaus Iohannis.

Asked why PNL submitted the bill now, Nicolae Ciucă stated that "they considered it the right moment to make such a decision.

"We, PNL, always, and if you look at our Statute, we have capitalized on all the experience accumulated by the party leaders, we do not have any party leader who is not in the National Political Bureau," he explained.

PNL has submitted a bill in Parliament that amends the electoral law so that the president can run in this year's parliamentary elections.

The project was submitted by the group leaders of PNL, Daniel Fenechiu and Gabriel Andronache.

"The news of the moment is that the National Liberal Party has registered a legislative procedure to amend the law which provides that the incumbent president, in the last three months of his term, can run as an independent on the list of a party or an alliance," announced the leader of the PNL senators, Daniel Fenechiu, on Digi24.
