Călin Georgescu wants a referendum for exiting the EU and NATO

Călin Georgescu continues his anti-Western offensive in two interviews given to controversial journalists from the United States and Russia. He claims that Romania is a slave to the EU, and NATO aims to drag us into a war with Moscow. He launches into a new series of astounding statements, asserting that Romania does not need European money because it will be the „engine of Europe” instead of Germany.

In a new interview with controversial American journalist James Freeman, Georgescu argues that Romania is the slave of the European Union and that NATO aims to push us into a war with Russia, themes used by Russian propaganda and repeated by the candidate of sovereignist parties.

"The influence of Brussels is huge, absolutely huge. There is no doubt about it. The political power in Romania has a very strong relationship with Brussels. In other words, we are not free. Because when you have this influence, it means you are nothing, you are just a slave of someone. This is a kind of slavery that the Romanian state puts on Brussels' table. And of course, it's not good, but it's a dramatic situation for the future," said Călin Georgescu.

With respect, "we don't want" in NATO

Georgescu said that a referendum should be organized to confirm that Romanians do not want to be part of the EU and NATO.

"Honestly speaking, there is no support from my people, I mean there are no people who would go there or lead such a situation. How can we believe to go somewhere else, for what? For such reasons, no one wants such a situation. No one supports that. By the way, James, why not organize a referendum, which is totally normal? To have a referendum for your people because I am sure it will be negative for them," he said.

Despite the most recent Eurobarometer published by the European Commission in November stating that 70% of respondents in Romania believe that our country has benefited from being a member of the EU, and 7 out of 10 Romanians are optimistic about the future of the EU.

At the same time, Georgescu believes "with all due respect" that expanding the NATO base at Kogălniceanu is not a priority now: "With all due respect, I consider it is not a priority now to think about what we will do for the NATO base because we are talking about peace. With all due respect, besides that, NATO is a defense organization, so it should remain as such. Why should we be alarmed, discuss so many things, if NATO is a defense organization? Also, in my opinion, we need to talk about peace and only about peace."

From Putin's words to JD's speech

In another interview given to the pro-Russian journalist from the Republic of Moldova, Natalia Morari, the girlfriend of Veaceslav Platon, the oligarch who fled to London after being accused of participating in the theft of one billion dollars from the Moldovan banking system, Georgescu continued his attacks on the EU.

Adopting this time the rhetoric of American Vice President JD Vance, he argues that Romanians and the EU "do not share common values." Moreover, our country does not need European funds because "Romania will be the engine of Europe," instead of Germany.

"You need to understand one thing. You enter into an association to help each other. We see what happened, advantages and disadvantages. I say one thing: when I spoke about nationalization, I talked about the country's resources, to return from the hands of major corporations to the Romanian people. We can develop on our own. We can develop even better.

I, as a country in Europe, existed before Brussels was born. I am through civilization, culture, history. And we became members of the European Union enriching the culture, traditions, value system. Just as JD Vance said, if we do not have the same value system based on freedom and democracy, how can we collaborate? So, I am not interested in these positions because I am interested in the greatness of the Romanian people. I am not interested in what they say (those in Brussels - ed.)," declared Georgescu in the interview cited by Antena3.

What Călin wishes for Romania

"The Romanian people are creators of history, now when we talk, the Romanian people are creating their own history, and they are desperate for it. Who is interested in EU money? The country is rich, I don't need their money. The Romanian people have God. So we are not interested. The independence of a country comes from the ability to finance itself.

Romania will be the engine of Europe. Germany cannot be anymore, as it has no basis. These sanctions that these tribal people have thought of have turned back like a boomerang because they no longer have a way to support the economy. Romania will have a way.

This is what I wish for Romania. To become the main engine of Europe. Things will change, from where? From the economy. I don't need their money, what to do with it? With money, you can't do anything, enough have been sold for a pittance, including through neighboring countries," he argued.

"Stephen the Great stood tall when there was an attempt to be invaded, back then the Ottoman Empire would invade you, now the European Union invades you," he added.

Călin Georgescu also attacked Romania's status as a member of the European Union and NATO during the autumn election campaign. In an interview for Politico, he promised that if elected as Romania's president, he would proceed with the nationalization of assets held by multinational companies. To Reuters, he said he would cut off any aid to Ukraine and would not respect NATO commitments, and to American conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, he complained that "NATO wants to start World War III," and for that, they need Romania.
