The Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) has decided on Wednesday to support Călin Georgescu in the presidential elections in May.
AUR leader, George Simion, stated in a message on social media that he does not wish to run for president and that he would be better as a prime minister than as a president, but only Romanians can decide that.

"Regarding the presidential elections, AUR unanimously voted to return to the constitutional framework by rerunning the second round of the presidential elections. Also, in view of organizing another round of presidential elections, the AUR members gathered at the CNC meeting reiterated the party's position to support the will expressed by Romanians in the elections on November 24, namely the support for Mr. Călin Georgescu," the party stated in an official press release.
"We emphasize that individual voices speaking out in the public space do not represent the AUR's position, these individuals expressing themselves only in a personal capacity," AUR added.
George Simion, the leader of AUR, wrote in a post that he does not wish to be included in surveys because he will not run for the presidential elections.
"The manipulation continues, please, do not include me in surveys, I am not running, I would be better as a prime minister than as a president, but only ROMANIANS can decide that," George Simion wrote on Facebook.
