Organizing a traditional Independence Day parade was impossible during wartime, so Ukraine opted for a different format. Ukrainian ground robotic systems paraded down Kiev’s Hreschatyk Boulevard, naval drones crossed the Dnieper, and military aircraft and combat drones flew over the area.
Ukraine marked its 35th independence anniversary on Monday with a unique military demonstration. There were no marching soldiers, tanks, or columns of heavy armored vehicles. Instead, robots designed to carry out many of the same missions appeared, showcasing technologies that have transformed the battlefield since the beginning of the large-scale Russian invasion, as reported by Euronews.
Dozens of unmanned ground vehicles with multiple roles paraded on Hreschatyk, Kiev's main artery, including robotic systems designed for combat, reconnaissance, logistics, and evacuating wounded soldiers from the battlefield.
On the Dnieper River, Ukraine showcased naval drones that have helped counter the Russian Black Sea Fleet – a force that previously held supremacy in the region – despite Ukraine not having a fleet of comparable size. Ukraine defends itself against Russia, a much larger country with vast reserves of soldiers and conventional weaponry.
