Three Romanian citizens with ties to a criminal group from the Balkans were detained in California. An arrest warrant had been issued for one of them.
The suspects were arrested on October 9 near Oceanside, San Diego. US Border Patrol agents stopped a vehicle on Interstate 5 highway and arrested all three occupants. According to authorities, they had entered the United States illegally from Canada.
Agents checked the records of the three suspects and found that one of them was a member of an organized crime group from the Balkans, according to the US Customs and Border Protection. He also had an arrest warrant issued in Virginia related to credit card fraud.
The three Romanians were also allegedly involved in the theft of a Rolex watch from a locker room in August in Los Angeles County, officials said.
Authorities did not disclose the names of the suspects. They were transferred to the US Customs and Immigration Enforcement for deportation procedures.
