The Constitutional Court of Romania validated the result of the presidential elections on Thursday. Since May 22, Nicușor Dan is the new president of Romania.

At the solemn session of the Constitutional Court, the president-elect, Nicușor Dan, and the interim president of Romania, Ilie Bolojan, were present. The two were welcomed by the head of the Constitutional Court, Marian Enache.

The session at the Constitutional Court had a solemn character and took place in the presence of several political leaders.

The validation took place after the Constitutional Court rejected George Simion's request to annul the election.

Nicușor Dan is set to take the oath before Parliament, an event that will most likely take place on Monday, May 26.

Bolojan: It's a new beginning, of trust, a beginning of hope

“It is an honor for me to participate today and I have a personal gratitude that we are closing in democratic conditions an electoral cycle that should have ended last year. But these elections, correctly organized, with a large turnout, show Romania's ability to organize free and fair elections and that we are a democratic state.

It's a new beginning, of trust, a beginning of hope. I wish Mr. President Nicușor Dan much success and hope to hear good things for our country. May God protect Romania and the Romanians, wherever they may be,” stated Ilie Bolojan.

Nicușor Dan: There will be many challenges

For his part, Nicușor Dan stated that a new chapter in Romania's history with many challenges lies ahead.

“I want to thank the Romanians who turned out in very large numbers for the elections in May and in this way gave legitimacy to the new president. I want to thank Mr. Ilie Bolojan for the interim period during which he ensured stability.

A new chapter in Romania's recent and contemporary history is ahead. I want to assure Romanians that I understand the responsibility of the mandate they have given me. There will be many challenges, and I hope we will successfully overcome all these challenges.

Romanian society has shown wisdom and I am convinced that it will exert pressure for the necessary positive change. I will fight for the consolidation of state institutions, for economic prosperity, and I will be a partner of the business environment and a guarantor of citizens' freedoms. Thank you,” declared Nicușor Dan.
