Ion Iliescu remains in Intensive Care. Is it lung cancer?

The health condition of the former President of Romania, Ion Iliescu, remains „stable”.

The information was conveyed Thursday morning by representatives of the Emergency Clinical Hospital „Prof. Dr. Agrippa Ionescu” in Bucharest, where Iliescu has been hospitalized since Monday.

Ion Iliescu, now 95 years old, is still being treated in the Intensive Care Unit. There, he receives complex medical care from a multidisciplinary team.

Could have lung cancer

Following the investigations conducted up to this point, the current diagnosis is "space-occupying lesion at the pulmonary level, advanced loco-regionally".

The medical term "space-occupying lesion, advanced loco-regionally" refers to a tumor mass with a diameter of at least 3 centimeters. According to medical sources cited by Libertatea, in the case of former President Ion Iliescu, it is not just a simple nodule, but a tumor in an advanced stage, regionally localized.

Given his advanced age, doctors estimate that the likelihood of it being malignant is over 80%.

Therefore, Iliescu could have lung cancer, even though he has never smoked.

Throughout Wednesday, June 11, the medical team performed several diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, which were well tolerated. Under treatment, the patient's general condition remained stable, without notable deteriorations.
