Former and current European commissioners bring clean energy experts together at European Sustainable Energy Week 2026

The European Commission has announced the program and opened registrations for the European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) 2026. This year’s edition marks a special moment: 20 years since the European energy community gathers to shape „a clean, secure, and competitive Energy Union,” as highlighted by the theme of the edition.

Through a collaboratively built program following an open call, EUSEW brings together key voices in the field of clean energy, alongside high-profile personalities such as European Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Dan Jørgensen.

A major highlight will be the panel on June 9, which will bring together former European Commissioners Andris Piebalgs, Günther Oettinger, Miguel Arias Cañete, and Kadri Simson – architects of European energy policy in the past – to discuss, alongside current Commissioner Dan Jørgensen, how the continent's priorities have evolved and what lies ahead in a changing geopolitical and economic context.

Main components of EUSEW 2026:

  • The EUSEW Policy Conference represents the core of the event and will take place in a hybrid format in Brussels – at the Charlemagne Conference Center of the European Commission and NH Brussels EU Berlaymont Hotel – as well as online. The conference will run from June 9 to 11, from Tuesday to Thursday, and will include plenary sessions and 50 policy-focused debates organized by the European Commission and industry stakeholders. The sessions will cover a wide range of topics and solutions, fostering discussions on clean, secure, and efficient energy, with a focus on new policy developments, best practices, and innovative ideas in sustainable energy.
  • The event will kick off with the EUSEW Awards Ceremony, which will honor outstanding individuals and projects in three categories: Local Energy Action, Women in Energy, and, for the first time this year, SMEs Driving Energy Efficiency. The new category highlights SMEs that have developed and implemented innovative business or financing models to advance energy efficiency solutions, particularly in buildings and industry. The nine EUSEW Awards finalists will be announced on May 5, 2026, along with the launch of the online public vote. Anyone can participate in selecting the winners, who will be honored on stage on June 9.
  • Participants, both physical and online, will have a wide range of networking opportunities to connect with the sustainable energy community. Those attending in person can also take part in the EUSEW Energy Fair, which allows organizations, companies, and associations to showcase their initiatives directly at the event. This year, the fair will bring together all participants under one roof at the Charlemagne building.
  • Within the Policy Conference, the current and future generation of Youth Energy Ambassadors – a total of 60 passionate young individuals – will provide intergenerational perspectives on clean energy. These young experts from across Europe, already engaged in the clean and fair energy transition, are selected for a one-year program where they represent youth voices in shaping sustainable energy policies.
  • The spirit of EUSEW extends beyond Brussels through Sustainable Energy Days, organized in the lead-up to the main event week. Hundreds of local events showcase concrete actions in the field of clean energy, in Europe and beyond. The call for obtaining the title of "Sustainable Energy Day" is open. Entries are continuously evaluated until the deadline of May 24, 2026, providing organizers with visibility within the EUSEW community.
