Ministry of Education proposes new rules for homework - time limit and no penalties

Homework assignments must be evaluated, but grading them is not mandatory, according to a draft order put up for consultation by the Ministry of Education.

The project stipulates that homework evaluation can be done: face-to-face, by discussing in class the parts where students encountered difficulties, or through a 10-minute test of the students, focusing solely on the homework assignment.

According to the document, using homework as a punishment is prohibited.

''The total time allocated to mandatory homework in primary education will be a maximum of one hour. (..) For all other levels of pre-university education, mandatory homework assignments cannot exceed two hours," the document under discussion states.

Moreover, the document indicates that ''especially during assessment periods, teachers will use, as much as possible, applications and in-class activities similar to the homework assignment.''
