Olympic Games 2026: Johannes Klaebo, historic record in medals won

Friday was a memorable day for Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo, the Norwegian cross-country skiing star, who claimed his eighth gold medal at the Olympic Games in Milan Cortina, thus equaling the all-time record at the Winter Olympics.

At 29 years old, Klaebo triumphed in the men’s 10-kilometer freestyle race, interval start, adding his third gold medal at the 2026 edition.

With only three races left, the Norwegian now shares this record with three former top athletes retired from competitions: Marit Bjoergen and Bjoern Daehlie in cross-country skiing, and Ole Einar Bjoerndalen in biathlon.

In the 10 km freestyle competition, interval start, the silver medal was won by the Frenchman Mathis Desloges, while the bronze went to the Norwegian Einar Hedegart.

The rankings of the Romanian athletes were as follows:

  • Paul Pepene – 52nd place, with a time of 23:04.9
  • Gabriel Cojocaru – 65th place, with a time of 23:43.3
