Jane Goodall, the pioneer of chimpanzee studies, has passed away

Renowned primatologist and environmental activist Jane Goodall has passed away at the age of 91, from natural causes, during a conference tour in the United States.

The Jane Goodall Institute announced on Wednesday that Dr. Jane Goodall, the founder of the organization and a UN Messenger of Peace, has died at the age of 91.

According to DW, the death occurred from natural causes in California, where she was on a series of lectures.

Her research on wild chimpanzee communities in Tanzania, started in 1960, has radically changed the way humans understand their relationship with the animal world.

The discovery that chimpanzees use tools was considered one of the most important scientific revelations of the 20th century.

"Dr. Goodall revolutionized science and was a tireless advocate for nature protection and restoration," the institute's statement said.

The United Nations organization has conveyed condolences, emphasizing the exceptional legacy Goodall has left in the conservation field.

Encyclopaedia Britannica noted that she obtained a Ph.D. without having a bachelor's degree, being appreciated for her unconventional approach to academic conventions.
