Goalkeeper Horațiu Moldovan has been loaned from Atletico Madrid to Real Oviedo until the end of the season, announced the newly promoted team in La Liga on Friday, which also has Romanian forward Daniel Paraschiv in its squad.
‘Real Oviedo and Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement for the loan of Horațiu Moldovan, who joins the Asturias club until June 30, 2026, with a purchase option at the end of the current season,’ indicated the new team of the Romanian international on its website.
Horațiu Alexandru Moldovan, 27 years old, was born on January 20, 1998, in Cluj-Napoca, as mentioned by the Spanish club. The new Oviedo goalkeeper was trained in the youth teams of CFR Cluj before continuing his development at several other clubs, such as FC Hermannstadt, Energeticianul, UTA Arad, and later, Ripensia Timișoara. Subsequently, Horațiu Moldovan signed with Rapid Bucharest, playing a decisive role in the club's promotion to Liga I. His time at Rapid allowed him to establish himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the league and earn a spot in the Romanian national team, making his debut on November 17, 2022, in a friendly against Slovenia.
In January 2024, Moldovan signed with Atletico Madrid, where he served as the backup to Jan Oblak. His next destination was Sassuolo, in Serie B, the second division of Italian football, where he played in 27 matches, helping the team secure promotion to Serie A due to his solidity and consistency in goal, as noted by Real Oviedo.
Moldovan made a significant contribution to Romania's qualification for EURO 2024.
Among Oviedo's players were Marius Lăcătuș (1991-1993) and Nicolae Simatoc (1952-1953).
