The Romanian government significantly increases the toll for car vignettes, starting from September 1, 2025, according to a draft law published by the Ministry of Finance.
The measure is part of the package to reduce the budget deficit and will be adopted by assuming responsibility in Parliament.
New rates for car vignettes:
- 1 day: 3.5 euros
- 10 days: 6 euros
- 30 days: 9.5 euros
- 60 days: 15 euros
- 12 months: 50 euros (compared to 28 euros currently, an increase of 78%)
Increased fines:
- Minimum fine: 500 lei (compared to 250 lei currently)
- Maximum fine: 1,000 lei (compared to 500 lei currently)
The fees paid before September 1, 2025, will remain valid until expiration.
Cristian Pistol, the head of the National Company for the Administration of Road Infrastructure, explained that the current level of the vignette is very low compared to other countries, such as Bulgaria, where the annual fee is already 50 euros.
