Prosecutors: Mercenary Horațiu Potra and his employees were coming to Bucharest with weapons and money, to incite illegal protests

The Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Ploiești Court of Appeal (Romania) suspects that the mercenary Horațiu Potra and his employees were heading towards Bucharest on Sunday morning, armed and with large sums of money, with which they were supposed to incite unauthorized protests.

Prosecutors are conducting searches on Monday in Ilfov, Sibiu, and Bucharest in this case, which involves investigations into offenses related to the violation of the regime of arms and ammunition, any operations involving pyrotechnic articles, and public incitement.

"Today, prosecutors from the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Ploiești Court of Appeal, together with the police officers of the Prahova County Police Inspectorate, are carrying out 12 home searches in Ilfov, Sibiu, and Bucharest, in a criminal case under investigation for offenses related to the violation of the regime of arms and ammunition, any operations involving pyrotechnic articles, and public incitement, at the residences owned by the defendant P.H. and in other locations where it is presumed that meetings took place between him and other individuals suspected of involvement in these offenses," specifies the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Ploiești Court of Appeal.

The investigation was opened after Horațiu Potra, a former fighter in the Foreign Legion, local councilor in the Mediaș Local Council, and a 22-year-old man, were stopped, in Prahova County, on the night from Saturday to Sunday, and various weapons (machetes, swords, daggers), firearms, as well as significant sums of money (approximately 18,000 dollars and 25,000 lei), laptops, storage media, and a professional drone were found in their possession.

Investigators say that, regarding these items, "it is presumed that they were intended to be used to incite individuals to commit offenses during unauthorized public gatherings and to reward them."

Horațiu Potra was detained on Sunday evening by the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Ploiești Court of Appeal.

He denies knowing presidential candidate Călin Georgescu, although his employees provided protection to the candidate.
