The President of the Defense Committee in the German federal parliament, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, has called for the activation of 900,000 reservists, in the context of the ongoing war launched by Russian President Vladimir Putin against Ukraine.
”Putin is training his people for war and positioning them against the West. That is why we need to become capable of defense as quickly as possible,” said Strack-Zimmermann, to the Funke media group.
She added that the Russian industry is focusing on arms production.
''Textbooks describe Germany as an aggressor state. Children in primary schools are trained to use weapons. All these things are horrifying,'' said Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann.
She has called on the armed forces to ''activate the nearly 900,000 reservists'' available in Germany, as reported by DPA on Saturday.
For this purpose, the German army should first register eligible reservists.
The President of the Reservists Association in Germany, Patrick Sensburg, presented a similar proposal a few weeks ago, suggesting the systematic registration of the health status and availability in case of all former members of the German armed forces.
