Zinedine Zidane (54 years old) is the new head coach of France.
The French Football Federation (FFF) announced on Tuesday the official appointment of Zinedine Zidane as the head coach.
"Zizou" thus takes over from Didier Deschamps, who was expected to leave anyway after the elimination of the "Roosters" from the 2026 World Cup.
Zidane's appointment marks the beginning of a new chapter for the French national team, after a 14-year period during which Didier Deschamps led the team.
A world champion both as a player in 1998 and as a coach in 2018, Deschamps ended his tenure after the 2026 World Cup, where France finished fourth. The French team was defeated by Spain with a score of 0-2 and by England with a score of 4-6.
Under Deschamps' leadership, the French national team reached the final of EURO 2016, won the 2018 World Cup, reached the semi-finals of EURO 2024, and the semi-finals of the 2026 World Cup. Additionally, the French team won the Nations League in 2021.
Zidane will make his official debut in his new role at the end of September and the beginning of October.
France has four matches scheduled in the Nations League, the first of which is against Turkey on September 25.
Three days later, the French team will face Belgium, followed by a match against Italy on October 2.
The series of matches will conclude on October 5 when France hosts Belgium.
