The athlete with 23 Grand Slam titles was eager to equal Margaret Court, who has 24 trophies of this kind, but she failed, losing the last 4 finals played, starting from 2018, one of them even to Simona Halep in 2019 on the grass of London.
"I think those defeats were related to the pressure of the record, yes. One of those finals I should have lost, definitely. But 2 or 3 of the matches I played towards the end of my career with the trophy on the line, I should have won them. At least two. However, I put too much pressure on myself. What a mess! Honestly, I regret now that I wasn't more relaxed, but I can't change anything now," said the great champion from the USA to ET at the premiere of the documentary "In the Arena: Serena Williams".
In 2018, Williams lost finals at Wimbledon and the US Open to Angie Kerber and Naomi Osaka, and in 2019 to Simona Halep again in London and to Bianca Andreescu at Flushing Meadows.
In July 2019, Simona Halep defeated Serena Williams with a double 6-2, in less than an hour on the court.
