It’s just a matter of days until Gică Hagi becomes the national team coach of Romania, after a comeback following 25 years since his very short previous tenure.
At 61 years old, Hagi is getting the chance of his life and will have an infernal mission. To rebuild Romanian football from scratch, currently in collapse. His first match will be away, a friendly against Georgia on June 2, followed by a home match, also a friendly, a few days later, but for now, we don’t know the opponent.
The Romanian Football Federation (FRF) has already prepared the draft contract, Burleanu now has the mandate from the Executive Committee to negotiate with Hagi, followed by the actual signing of the agreement and the official presentation.
The only requirement Hagi would have had for the FRF would have been to implement his own playing philosophy from the youngest junior national team to the senior national team, something similar to the Ovidiu Academy that he himself built from scratch, as reported by DigiSport.
Hagi will have a 4-year contract with the national team, a salary of 27,000 euros per month, a qualification bonus for the European Championship in over 2 years of 500,000 euros, and one million if he qualifies us for the 2030 World Cup.
Hagi's first official matches will be in the Nations League, where we are in League B, in group 4, where we will face Sweden, Bosnia, and Poland, the first 2 countries being qualified for the upcoming World Cup in America.
