UEFA has made a provisional decision regarding Swiss referee Urs Schnyder, following his controversial decision in the Poland – Romania match in the Nations League.
Romanian central defender Radu Drăgușin was sent off in the 22nd minute of the match in Warsaw, after committing a foul as the last defender against Robert Lewandowski. Several voices from Romanian refereeing, and beyond, have criticized this incident, stating that the red card was unnecessary and was given too easily by the Swiss referee.
No official sanction has been issued against the referee yet, but UEFA did not appoint Schnyder for the next round of Nations League matches, the final one of this initial batch of the first 4 rounds.
After Drăgușin's dismissal on Friday night, Romania only held on in the first half, as the second half was a disaster, with our defense conceding 5 goals in 45 minutes.
UEFA has appointed a team from Azerbaijan for Monday's match against Sweden at the National Arena, with Elchin Masiyev in the center. He will be assisted by Elshad Abdullayev and Parvin Talibov, while Farid Hajiyev will be the reserve official. In the VAR room, Jeroen Manschot and Nicat Ismayilli will be present.
