Sorana Cîrstea was robbed at the hotel where she was staying during the US Open.
Our athlete had her trophy stolen, the one she won last week in Cleveland.
Immediately, U.S. authorities launched an investigation and are trying to find the thief.
The hotel representatives stated that they are doing everything possible to cooperate with the authorities.
"We are in close contact with our esteemed guest regarding the object reported missing. Our Director of Safety and Security, a former NYPD detective, is overseeing the investigation. We are treating the matter with the utmost seriousness and continue to collaborate directly with Ms. Cirstea," said Simon Chapman, the hotel's general manager, to CBS Sports.
Additionally, the organizers announced that they will provide Sorana with a new trophy. "We can't let you go home without any trophy! Awards and Apparel will fix things," Tennis in the Land specified in an Instagram story.
Recently, Sorana made a public appeal for the return of the trophy.
"Whoever stole my trophy from Cleveland from room 314 at @thefiftysonesta (the hotel where she was staying in New York), please give it back to me!
It has no material value, only sentimental value! I will be very grateful. Thank you!", Sorana Cîrstea wrote in the InstaStory section on Instagram.
