The American press has raised a question regarding Simona Halep (32 years old), who recently withdrew from the Romanian team of the Billie Jean King Cup „for medical reasons.”
Considering the long break and her desire to play immediately after receiving the green light from TAS, Simona Halep is facing „medical issues” that have forced her to withdraw from Romania’s match against Ukraine in the Billie Jean King Cup.
Americans wonder if Simona Halep may have returned to the court too soon after the long break caused by her doping suspension.
„Just when the tennis world thought it would have Simona Halep back, she will be absent again. This time, the absence is not related to any suspension, but she will be absent for medical reasons. (…) The exact medical reason is not known. After a one-year break due to the doping suspension, Halep made her comeback at the Miami Open. (…) After such a break, it can be difficult for Simona to play at a high level almost immediately. She rushed back, is 32 years old, and probably doesn’t have many years left to play. Even so, a logical question is whether Simona returned too quickly,” writes Lob and Smash.
Simona Halep was defeated by Paula Badosa in the first round at the Miami Open, her first match since returning to the WTA circuit.
However, it seems that Simona Halep may have accepted a new wildcard to play at a clay court tournament, WTA Rouen.
