Roland Garros 2024, the second Grand Slam tournament of the year, kicks off this Sunday, and Romania will have a representative at the start, Jaqueline Cristian.
Cristian, ranked 67th in the WTA, will face off at 14:30 against Jelena Ostapenko, the 10th in the world, the former champion here in Paris in 2017, after a dramatic final against Simona Halep. Jaqueline Cristian and Jelena Ostapenko have faced each other only once on the WTA circuit. It happened in 2021, when the Romanian emerged victorious in St. Petersburg, 6-3, 7-6.
The duel between the two takes place on court number 2 at the French Open complex, Suzanne Lenglen, being the second match of the day, after the Ugo Humbert - Lorenzo Sonego match on the men's draw (which starts at 12:00).
Also on Sunday, we have some interesting matches on the draw. Carlos Alcaraz steps into the arena for a match against American Jeffrey John Wolf, and in the evening session, at 9:15, we have the great veterans' showdown Murray vs Wawrinka. Wawrinka won the Roland Garros trophy in 2015, and Murray reached the final here in 2016.
In addition to Cristian, Romania also has Irina Begu, Sorana Cîrstea, and Ana Bogdan on the draw in Paris.
