Istvan Kovacs referees the Europa League final

Istvan Kovacs (39 years old) will referee the 2023/2024 Europa League final.

Kovacs, an official who is preparing to officiate matches at EURO 2024, has received an important appointment from UEFA. The Romanian will referee the Europa League final, Atalanta – Bayer Leverkusen, as announced by the Romanian Football Federation in a statement.

The Atalanta - Bayer Leverkusen match, the Europa League final for 2023/204 which will take place in Dublin (Ireland) on May 22, will be officiated by Istvan Kovacs, who will be at the center for his second European final in his career, following the 2022 Conference League final.

Istvan Kovacs has been appointed by UEFA to officiate the Europa League final on Wednesday, May 22, in Dublin: Atalanta (Italy) - Bayer Leverkusen (Germany).

In the team for this final will also be Kovacs' compatriots Vasile Marinescu and Ovidiu Artene as assistant referees, and Cătălin Popa as the VAR assistant. Alongside them will be the fourth official Ivan Kruzliak (Slovakia), reserve assistant Branislav Hancko (Slovakia), while in the VAR room will be Paulus van Boekel (Netherlands), VAR referee, and Rob Dieperink (Netherlands), VAR support," as stated in a press release from the Romanian Football Federation.
